Many years ago I owned a silk screen printing business in upstate New York when a young man came into the shop. “I want to order 1,000 shirts,” he said. The business was having financial challenges at the time and an order of that size would be fantastic.
“Let me show you the design.” He took a blank piece of paper, drew an abstract pattern on it, and darkened in several of the lines so they spelled out the word… “GOD”.
“Nice,” I said to him. “Are you from some church or youth group?”
“Nope,” he answered. “That’s my name. I am God.” I looked into his eyes and saw someone tripping, way off in space, unconnected to the reality of the world around him. It was a job I’d never get paid for.
I sighed. “I’ll need a deposit.”
“I said I’m God,” he replied, “I don’t need to make a deposit.”
“It’ll take a week to do,” I said to get rid of him. “Come back next week.” I never saw him again.
I think of this when I tell people that Universal Consciousness dwells within me. Do they think I’m spacy even though I tell them that I’m nothing special… that Universal Consciousness dwells within them too?
Someday, of course, we will all know that is true. It’s part of the natural sequence of evolution. Unfortunately, we’re not there yet.
