Who We Are What We Are

It should come as no surprise to anyone possessing even the slightest powers of observation that civility in America is dead. Now I am not speaking here of the long lost art of chivalry… spreading one’s cloak on the ground so mi’lady can daintily step across the puddle without soiling her toesies. No, I’m talking about the common courtesies of giving seats on the bus to old people, not flinging garbage on the streets, and refraining from “throwing the bird” to every driver who happens to move into lane in front of you.

The concept that there is only one religion and only one right way to pray is misguided. There are currently over 6 1/2 billion people on this planet and it is ludicrous that one could possibly think that we all have to believe the same thing. By definition, if a deity existed that demanded the entire planet prayed to him/her and followed his/her rules then you would have an evil deity on our hands, and all bets are off. Imagine if you will, that this deity has the same disposition as Andorra from “Bewitched”. You forget a prayer, don't go to church, don't go to confession, don't keep Kosher or show up for high holy day services, that deity will strike you (turn you into ferret as Andorra might have, or make you sick). Completely at the whim of this deity.

More importantly, the ultimate purpose of most religions is of how we treat other people. Shouldn't the way that you have been kind and treated people in the best possible way throughout one's life, be more important of who or what you believe. A god that rewards one of which deity you pray to over how you behaved as a human being would have to be considered evil. Especially if this deity decides the rules and decides if you played the game properly.

Part of progressing to ones higher self, incorporates very easy behaviors. Such as just being pleasant to other people, moving into the middle lane when cars are trying to merge on the highway, opening the door for people, and other things mentioned in AG's “End of Civility”. One doesn't need an invisible ogre to make sure that you do such things

      Hi Steven…

You are right about the silliness of there being only one way to relate to the Higher Consciousness, which for want of a better word many people refer to as God. More important than being religious and following rituals is being spiritual and following inner wisdom and love.
