Why Should I Care – cont’d
One reason to ask the question “Why Should I Care?” is simply to ponder the opposite scenario. What if nobody gave a flying crap about anybody else? What if we actually lived in a Mad Max/Clockwork Orange Society where everyone just took what they wanted, did what they felt like, and ran roughshod over anything and anyone who stood in their way, leaving broken shards scattered behind them without thought of the suffering they had caused or the ultimate consequences of their actions?
Yes, I know there’s a lot of that going on in the world today, but what if that were all there was? What if no one cared the slightest bit what happened to the person next door? What if we all reverted back to the evolutionary level that existed when T-Rex was the most advanced being on the planet and “looking out for #1” meant eating your neighbor before he ate you. Talk about ugly. We’d live behind locked doors in walled cities, trusting in armed guards whose only allegiance to us was that we paid their salaries. And that would only hold true until somebody else offered to pay them more. It would be survival of the strongest, power to the meanest.
Fortunately, life on Earth has come a long way since then. And while there still are individuals, and organizations, and countries who measure their greatness by the power they hold and the control they have over others, as a whole, humanity has developed a softer, gentler side that the dinosaurs, with their pea sized brains, could never have understood. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, is definitely a human trait. Apparently, one reason to care is that it makes us more human.
Moreover, the evolutionary process is continuing. Humanity as we know it is only a way station in a long evolutionary line that is leading consciousness to its highest self. Each day in everything we do and say, each one of us has the option of reverting backwards to the hard, mindless, cold-blooded creatures we evolved from, or moving forward and growing into the loving, enlightened, spiritual beings we are destined to become.
Actually, the new consciousness is already here. In opposition to the evil that makes the nightly news, millions of people around the world already feel their connections to others by tuning in to their higher senses. Individuals, via subtle activism, are meeting in person, through cyberspace, and in spirit, to pray for peace, to stop hunger, to save the planet. More and more we are becoming aware that the ‘I’ within me is the ‘I’ within all; that we are not only our brother’s keepers, but individual cells in a higher organism of which we are all a part. We have senses and understandings far beyond what we have believed to be the case. Caring is one way we can nurture these emerging senses, one way we can inch closer to the Absolute.
If you already know all of this, great. You are one on the leading edge. Don’t waste it.
If this is all new to you, check out “GamesofConsciousness.com” , a website designed to help seekers touch the new reality. Become your highest self and you can help tip the balance. Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a world of unlocked doors and open cities without the need for guards and firearms. Why should I care? Think of the alternative.
